Editing Projects
In order to strengthen my audio and editing skills, I have carried out projects centered around color grading, sound mixing, trailer remixes, and music videos.
Music Video
Music videos are known for utilizing visuals to express the imagery and emotions within songs. By looking at footage from Nat Ho’s music video, “Unleashed,” I constructed a full music video in Adobe Premiere Pro. The intensity of the video matches the upbeat energy of the song, which is something that reflects the dramatic elements of the music. I hope you have as much fun watching as I did making this music video!
Film Trailer Remix
How can one change the genre and emotions of a movie through a trailer? I have always admired the editors that are responsible for piecing together trailers, as they are important to share to viewers the basis of a film without giving too much away.
In this trailer for Invaders From Mars (1986), I utilize intense and dramatic instrumental music to emphasize the scary aspects of the film. To do this, I watched the movie and noted clips to use that could aid in making this film scarier than it is. I also picked a few key quotes within the film to convey the theme and reveal snippets of the plot.
Sound Design
This project centers around sound designing a scene in The Matrix (1999). Aside from the score, the rest of the sound effects were obtained via effects websites and the talking is performed by myself (which is why it might sound a little strange).
This was one of the most time-consuming projects that I tackled. Syncing the sounds up to the actions took quite a while but it was worth it to get an accurate finished product. While completing this sound design mix, I developed a stronger appreciation for sound designers in particular, as most people never consider how the sound can make or break a movie.
Color Grading
By using Adobe Premiere Pro, I color graded the included footage from raw images. I focused on elements like the highlights, shadows, mid-tones, and other aspects like vibrancy and saturation. I also have experience using DaVinci Resolve to color grade footage, as well as piece together edits.
