My Poetry

humans.

This poem was created with a prompt in mind for the Quinnipiac Montage Literary Magazine’s Fall 2017 publication, which was “Things that don’t belong.” After pondering what I could possibly write about, I got the idea of humans as a whole existence. How people seem to forget that it is a blessing we get to live on a planet as beautiful as Earth, and that we are slowly killing it.

This poem is written from the perspective of the earth. How it has provided a home for humans, but our greed has made most of us forget how important it is to preserve. I didn’t write this with the intention to call people out about their actions; rather, I hope it is a wake-up call about what is happening around us.

Do humans really deserve to belong on this earth?

fading.

This poem was constructed with the wide range of emotions I encountered when trying to find my place in college. As a first-year student, everything is unfamiliar as you learn to adjust to your new lifestyle. While I welcome change in my life, it can be difficult to navigate – especially when pursuing a career that you are supposed to do for the rest of your life. It can be a lot to take in. I found myself smiling less and less, something that scared me. I was in my head quite often, thinking about my purpose and other broad concepts that an 18-year-old shouldn’t be worrying about.

This is for the people that have ever doubted themselves and their worthiness on this planet. You are not alone; everyone has their ups and downs, and it will not be an easy journey getting to where you are supposed to be. But, I promise you that it is worth it to stay, as you will never know the incredible things that will come your way.
